Founder and Speech-Language Pathologist
Shelly Geddes is a licensed speech-language pathologist who was born and raised on a farm in Oklahoma. She received a B.S. in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Oklahoma in 2004 and an M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in 2006.
Shelly is the founder of Pediatric Communication Solutions, Inc. in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She also serves as the co-director of the John W. Keys Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Team at OUHSC and the co-director of the Velopharyngeal Insufficiency (VPI) Clinic of Oklahoma. She is an active member of both the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and the Oklahoma Speech-Language-Hearing Association, and holds her Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC). She is constantly learning and expanding her clinical skills, and she strives to provide the best possible evidence-based treatment through continuing education courses.
She has a special interest in assessing and treating children with voice/resonance and speech sound disorders including: articulation, childhood apraxia of speech, and phonological disorders. Shelly is recognized by Apraxia Kids for clinical expertise in Childhood Apraxia of Speech.
Prior to opening her private practice, she held an academic appointment at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in the College of Allied Health as a Clinical Assistant Professor for twelve years. She is now a faculty member in the Department of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery. She guest lectures in both departments annually to the Introduction to Speech Pathology and Graduate Orthodontics classes. She also continues to mentor graduate students who are obtaining their masters degrees in speech-language pathology.
Shelly finds her work with children and families very rewarding. She values the relationships built with families throughout the course of their treatment. She is dedicated to treatment of communication disorders related to cleft lip and palate, and enjoys going on mission trips whenever she is able. Shelly is currently mentoring 8 speech therapists across the globe through her mission work. Missions have included travel to Ethiopia and Guatemala.
Shelly and her husband James, reside in Norman with their two children, Jett and Kate. Outside of helping children find their voices, Shelly enjoys traveling with her family, going to the beach, yoga, and pilates.
