Layten

After Layten’s 4^th birthday, we noticed it was hard to understand what she was communicating. It sounded very nasally, and we always had to ask her to repeat herself. We were lucky enough to have someone (old neighbor) who recommend Shelly for a speech evaluation. Shelly was great from the start, and she was able to recognize immediately what it was. With her network, she was able to get us into a specialized clinic, and Layten was diagnosed with VPI (Velopharyngeal Insufficiency). This eventually led to a pharyngeal flap surgery to correct VPI, and then Layten began speech therapy sessions with Shelly to learn how to use the pharyngeal flap. It was amazing to watch her correct Layten but also build her up at the same time. Shelly has a way of connecting with her patients, and it was amazing to watch her expertise shine through every day.  We could not recommend her enough, and she had a profound impact on our daughter before she started school. We will be forever grateful for Shelly and her staff!
